Esse Quam Videri is a spiritual retreat for alcoholic women in recovery. If you are seeking serenity, peace, and tranquility then you don't want to miss this opportunity. The retreat is held in the foot of the Black Mountains at Camp Grier. Lodging is rustic cabins with bunkbeds, but there are two washrooms in the cabins. Each cabin has a large stone fireplace and gathering room. Sitting around the fire has become a favorite pastime of many of our old-timers, but you can also pull up one of the dozens of rocking chairs on the porch of the dining hall and just listen to the wind in the trees or watch the squirrels and birds rustle around.
Meals are included and the cooks have been impressing us with their talent for many years. Meals include dinner on Friday night, breakfast-lunch-dinner on Saturday, and breakfast or brunch on Sunday. The cabins also have refrigerators, so feel free to bring snacks and drinks. The snack table in the cabin is usually covered with tasty treats brought by attendees, so feel free to bring a snack for yourself or one to share.
Formal meetings are Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday night, and Sunday morning. Saturday afternoon is unstructured and you are free to spend time with the God of your understanding or visit Black Mountain, Asheville, or the Light Center. Camp Grier has hiking trails, a pond with canoes, and plenty of quiet spots for you to meditate, read, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. On Saturday night, we build a huge bonfire and write something on a piece of paper that we are going to leave on the mountain. We sing Amazing Grace and drop our pieces of paper into the fire -- these moments have proved to be powerful emotionally and spiritually.
Whether you are new to recovery or an old timer, your experience matters to us. Come share it.
